A few years ago (ok, a lot of years ago) Robert Kriegel wrote an excellent book. He called it the “C Zone (“published by Fawcett Columbine) in which he explains how we can get ordinary people to do extraordinary things.

We have all experienced both the challenge and the mastery of being in the C Zone. That feeling where everything you do feels right! We have been in the ‘zone’ and totally out of ‘it.’ (You should see my golf game, when I am in the ‘zone’ I am a young god, when I am not I am an old ox)

We all have had times where we were on a ‘high’, where we could do no wrong, were we had that winning feeling … well what we were was being in the ‘C’ Zone.

The ‘C’ Zone is characterized by commitment to work, by confidently taking risks without being overwhelmed, and by being in control – prepared, skilled, and effective.

In his book Dr. Kriegel explains:

“Take a moment and reflect on several times in your life when you challenged yourself and took a risk in any area of endeavor. Remember the excitement and anticipation of trying something that was new, uncertain and a little out of your control. Remember how it felt – the energy, the fear, how vital and alive you felt, how your concentration sharpened and everything was experienced with more intensity?

“The successful person has the habit of doing the things failures don’t like to do.” ~ Thomas Edison

Make a list of some of the risks you’ve taken. As you list them, remember them in as much detail as you can. Re-experience the challenge as fully as you can.

Then take a moment and remember several aspects in which you have achieved mastery. Reflect on the feeling or satisfaction that you derived from doing something well. Experience the ease and confidence with which you go about this work.

List several areas of your life in which you have achieved mastery, become competent or expert. Once again as you write each down, reflect on how it feels to note your accomplishment.

Now list a few areas in your life in which you would like to develop more competence and expertise.”

Clearly if we were able to transport the feeling of mastery of being in the ‘zone’ into every situation in our real estate investor business lives we would be far more effective.

Dr. Kriegel goes on to say that the “C” Zone shuttle between mastery and challenge is a vehicle not only for growth and improvement but for creativity and spontaneity as well.

Top speakers, those who interact spontaneously with their audience; salespeople who adapt a presentation on the spur of the moment; supervisors and managers who respond instantaneously to a wide range of problems; anyone who thinks creatively on his feet – all have in common mastery of their material. Mastery frees each of them to accept the challenge of the moment and to respond spontaneously, often with a surprising creativity.”

We talk about ‘knowledge is power,’ we believe in ‘training’ and yet often we leave the training to the handing over of a book or a tape instead of sitting with our representatives and getting them into their ‘C’ zone experience by practicing their presentationsrole playing, script writing. Practice it in private, then practice it repetitively in a real live situation and they and you will become more and or spontaneous too and in the ‘C’ zone.

Action Thought This Week

I will sit back and relive “C” zone type experiences. I will recall days where simply nothing could go wrong. Days where I was more productive with less effort and completely in tune with what I was doing. I’ll recall feeling great – on top of the world – on a roll.

I will also believe that I can get into the “C’ zone at will, if I practice being confident about what I am doing, strongly committed to my business plan, to my Personal Professional Pillars and my goal of being a real estate Investor. And of course … in control of myself and my actions. (And … buy the book and no, we do not get royalties…)

Action plan meetings are the foundation of your REAG membership. At these informal meetings there are no wrong answers. Groups of approximately 10-15 members share their goals and develop specific 3-day “action plans” to bring them to reality. Earl Nightingale said “Success is the progressive realization of a worthwhile goal”. At the action plan meetings, we celebrate small successes and acknowledge everyone’s progress. The idea is to keep focused on a monthly basis and get into action. It’s all part of the process of “growing into your future best”. Sign up today!

You get exposure to thousands of investors! Send your deals to Ozzie no later then Friday at noon for inclusion in the following week.
