Weekly Thought Starter #42: Once more: Into the breach! Who am I? What do I do about it!
October 17, 2016 – No. 42 (36)
“In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing. The worst thing you can do is nothing.” -Theodore Roosevelt
AGENDA OF TODAY’S ‘THOUGHTS OF THE WEEK’
- Once more: Into the breach! Who am I? What do I do about it!
2.Procrastination is a lack of self-respect
3.IAGTDITs, the “I am going to do it tomorrow syndrome.”
4.The road to hell is paved with good intentions.
- Do it!
DO IT! DO IT! DO IT! DO IT! DO IT! DO IT! DO IT! DO IT!
“Procrastination is a lack of self-respect”
Now think about that one. The real estate investment business is a wonderful business. (Yes, it is a business).
Opportunity abounds. We write our own ticket, create our own salary. We are independent. Strong. Real Estate Investors RULE.
Since we create our own environment of success, our own results, we have a wonderful way of predict our outcome – if we do the things we need to do-
Last week we talked about pleasing methods versus pleasing results. If we do not have the results we want, it often stems from the IAGTDITs, the “I am going to do it tomorrow,” syndrome.
We procrastinate. We do not mean to…we plan to be pro-active, call those ‘expiries,’ call those ‘by owners,’ but … well, the day takes over and after all…we were busy, right?
Well, think about this carefully: “Procrastination is a lack of self-respect.”
- A lack of respect for yourself.
A lack of respect to have the results that you deserve.
A lack of respect for you and your family‘s future.
A lack of respect for your business.
A lack of respect for your potential buyers – improving their lives.
A lack of respect for your vendors…
You get the idea.
Think about procrastination.
It is all about having good intentions. Good intentions to do the things we must do in order to have the results we need and deserve. We feel terrible if we don’t do what we said we would.
After all, we did have good intentions … well…
THE ROAD TO HELL IS PAVED WITH GOOD INTENTIONS!!!
Review what your intentions were – what you suffered when you didn’t do it – and promise just for 2 days this week….yes, just two days: I will do exactly, what I plan today and not put off a single thing. I will not procrastinate!
Or as Tony Robbins says: Put off procrastination till tomorrow!!!
One book I still want to write is going to be called “Life is in the doing”.
I believe firmly that there are no stupid people (or at least very few). We all understand soo much…but to get ourselves to do it … Ah, that is another question.
Some of our Action Group members are just not comfortable setting goals — particularly written ones. And I think it isn’t that they don’t want to, but usual goal-setting exercises don’t work for them.
Well, perhaps there are some that can get away without that grounding goal, that measuring stick.
I notice that effective top producing people have a powerful sense of self-worth and self – action.
Somehow they know where they are going and how to get there – like an internal driving mechanism. We all know that in the Real Estate Action Group, in the real estate investment scene it takes all kinds of people and all kinds of motivation.
Some Reaggies have advanced degrees, others do not. Some are rich, while
others are broke. A few have a clear vision of the future, but most work day-to-day. The key difference that seems to make all the difference is that effective top producing people have a sense of where they going.
They feel in charge of their own lives. They take full responsibility for their schedules, their attitudes, and the details of their lives. Whether their goal is far in the future, or as near as next weekend, they know what they want and – most of all – they take action to
make it happen.
“You don’t have to be great to get started but you have to get started to be great.”
The key is not that high achievers necessarily have a sense of mission, but that on a daily basis, they know what they want and where they are going.
So, if we want to be high achieving real estate investors, we have to DO something every day. Action goals are more satisfying they are easily measurable. That’s why I preach, look at real estate on certain days, and make it a habit.
Too many people drift through life rather than setting their own course and running their own ship.
“Man is so made that when anything fires his soul, impossibilities vanish.”
-Jean De La Fontaine
To achieve more, decide what you want and determine that today – not tomorrow or next week or “someday” but TODAY – you will take action to make it happen. Want to double your income? Make an extra call or take some other action, but do it today.
Want to lose weight, start a business or enrich your family life? Decide what you want and take some positive action to make it happen. Then, do it again tomorrow, and the day after, and the day after that.
Life is in the doing … you an even eat an elephant – one bite at a time …
Decide what you want in your life, and go after it. Every day, take some positive action, no matter how small. Every morning remind yourself of your values, your direction, your desires, and take a moment to commit to an action that will move you in that direction.
“Everything changes when you change.” -Jim Rohn
